THE REALITY
SHEFQET AVDUSH EMINI - THE REALITY OF MY LIFE IN MANY COLORS – THAT WAS IN THE PAST
In this photograph, I am painting as a student during my studies. My student years were and remain the best memories of my life. It was a time when life had meaning, full of light, joy, inspiration, and perspective. I enjoyed the special support and respect of my professors because of my work, which everyone appreciated by saying: “Shefqet’s work shines.”
Every day was brighter than the previous one. I had friends and colleagues with whom I shared beautiful moments filled with sincerity and mutual support. Since that time, I have maintained contact with my closest friends, even though life has physically separated us. Two of them, Veli Morina and Bajram Begu, live in New York, USA. Despite the physical distance, we remain close in mind and heart, as our memories and sincerity have remained untouched and unforgettable. My respect for these two friends and brothers is undeniable and unwavering.I need to rimin my artist friend from Kosovo: Remzi Lohaj, Haki Xhakli, Ahmet Krasniqi etj, Best regards.
Student life left deep marks and memories that will never be forgotten. Even though I was a student, my professors often invited me for coffee, and I felt uneasy since they were older, accomplished people, while I was just a student. Later, I realized that this honor was a result of their immense respect for my work, which they valued highly.
During that period, I worked with great dedication in painting, spending almost all my time in the atelier for the love I had for my profession. Later, Professor Anton Glasniqi selected me as a student assistant in painting technology. I was happy that, as a young man of that age, I had earned the great respect of my professors. Towards the end of my graduation, Professor Nusret Saliamixhiqi approached me and said:
“I want to give you some advice about life, which I have also experienced. You are now completing the Faculty of Arts and will become independent. Remember, you will face many challenges in life, especially in the professional aspect. To tell you the truth, you are a wonderful artist and, without a doubt, you will remain a great name in the history of world art. But before you get there, you will experience many trials, injustices, intrigues, and backstabbing. These come from bad characters and those without talent, who, out of jealousy, will try to hinder you. Never give up! Move forward with the talent and perseverance you have. I believe you will achieve your dreams.”
In the end, he wished me well with the words: “Shefqet will remain a great name in the history of world art.” Thank you, Professor Nusret Saliamixhiqi, for your valuable advice in preparing me for my journey in the art career.
Another important moment happened when, after some time, Professor Anton Glasniqi visited the atelier to observe the students’ work. When he reached me, he proudly said: “Shefqet is a genius!” Some time later, poet and journalist Faruk Tasholli visited us and heard the professor’s glorious words about me. He asked: “How is Shefqet doing?” and Anton Glasniqi proudly replied: “Shefqet is a genius!” Today, I am convinced that even Faruk has not forgotten and never will forget that moment.
Even though I came from a moderately wealthy family, I studied under very difficult conditions. When I decided to enroll in the Faculty of Fine Arts, my eldest uncle told my father not to enroll me, arguing that I would not be able to finish. But my father replied: “Why should my son remain a laborer for your children? If you have enrolled four of your children in university, then my son also has the right to be educated!”
During my studies, I often returned home with top grades, and newspapers of the time frequently wrote about me. My paintings were published in the Rilindja printing press. However, as a student, I studied with great struggles, with torn shoes and pants ripped at the back, often feeling the cold breeze passing through my body. There were times when I was forced to wander the streets of Prishtina to avoid meeting friends because I had no place to sleep. Another uncle helped me with a small amount of money, but it was not even enough for a quarter of my monthly needs. And every time he sent me the money through his son, he would make sure that I was among friends so they would see that I was being helped, just for appearances. But no matter what, a work started with willpower always ends well.
At the end of my studies, a faculty-wide student exhibition was held to select the best student. We all eagerly awaited the decision. I had confidence in myself. Meanwhile, Professor Nusret Saliamixhiqi approached me, reached into his pocket, and handed me some money, saying: “This is for you because you have been declared the best student.” I refused, and he said: “This is compensation for the injustice that happened.” My award was given to another student, but she sincerely protested, saying: “This is not my award! It belongs to Emini!”
Despite this injustice, that eventful time remains a bright memory in my life. I cherish the happy moments with friends, colleagues, and the world of art that united us as young artists with dreams for the future. The memories of that time are an unforgettable dream that always accompanies me.
From this whole experience, I choose to remember only the most beautiful moments: my friends, colleagues, and the shared passion for art. Student life remains a period filled with colorful memories, a vivid dream that continues to live in my mind and heart.
